Nebraska's Poet Laureate in Perpetuity, John G. Neihardt is the author of numerous works of poetry and prose, including "Black Elk Speaks," "Cycle of the West," and many others.

The Site features a Visitor's Center that includes a museum, research library, and special exhibits; historic study; and Sacred Hoop Prayer Garden. Monthly free programming includes Summer on the Lawn (May-August) and Sunday at the Museum (September-March) outdoor series that features speakers, musicians, and others.
