Over 300,000 persons traveled the Oregon Trail which enters Nebraska near Lanham. The Homestead Act of 1862 lead the way for FREE land. One of the first homestead claims is preserved at Homestead National Monument of America just 4 miles west of Beatrice. Beatrice, county seat, is located just 40 minutes south of Lincoln.
