Andrew Jackson Higgins National Memorial

Featuring a full-size steel replica of a LCVP (Landing Craft, Vehicle, Personnel), the "Higgins Boat" serves as the centerpiece for the monument. This memorial is dedicated to native son, Andrew Jackson Higgins, designer and builder of the boats. Life-size bronze statues are seen emerging from this flat bottom boat that carried American soldiers ashore during conflicts. The Memorial Walk is the shape of the Earth and contains brass stars holding sand samples from D-Day beaches where these boats landed. A memorial wall, built with engraved bricks, provides the backdrop. A bronze eagle with a 7-ft wing span sits atop steel from the World Trade Center.
