Near a high, conical hill north of the historic Montrose church and cemetery, an encounter took place between the 5th U.S. Cavalry and a group of American Indians in 1876. Southeast of the hill, a monument memorializes the slaying of Cheyenne warrior, Yellow Hair (Hand), by Buffalo Bill Cody. The site does not include modern facilities, such as restrooms or lights. Open year round weather permitting. Free.
