Nebraska City's downtown business district is alive and colorful, thanks to a series of historical murals by artist Kent Schwartz. Funded by a grant from the John, Paul, Anton and Doris Wirth Foundation, the thirteen (...and counting) murals depict marketing promotions from a bygone era. Schwartz has spent hours at the Morton-James Public Library in Nebraska City seeking designs of old signs and backgrounds of local businesses to reproduce the new signs in that same style. The historical murals are a part of the 2021 Nebraska Passport program.
