General Crook House Museum/Douglas County Historical Society

The Museum is the authentically restored home of Civil War and National Indian Wars hero, General George Crook, and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Celebrating 140 years in 2019, it was constructed in 1879 while General Crook served as the Commander of the Department of the Platte. General Crook is known for his supporting role in the landmark 1879 trial of Standing Bear v. Crook. The house was built in the Italianate style, which represented the grandeur of the military frontier. All furnishings are antiques from the 1880 Victorian period. 

Our exhibit space at the General Crook House Museum focuses on a topic or event related directly to Douglas County, Nebraska. Our 2019-2020 exhibit, Straight Out of Omaha, explores local inventions, celebrities, businesses, and noteworthy achievements from Douglas County.
