National travel writers get a taste of Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (September 18, 2018) – Apple picking, Nebraska craft beer tasting and local food sampling are all part of the upcoming culinary harvest themed media tour hosted by the Nebraska Tourism Commission. Five journalists from national media outlets will get a taste of Nebraska September 20-24. These tours are designed to showcase what Nebraska has to offer to increase media coverage of tourism opportunities in the state.

“We hope these journalists leave our state feeling inspired to write about everything they saw, experienced, and in this case, tasted. Nebraska is a beautiful state waiting to be explored and these journalists can reach a wide audience to help spread that message,” said John Ricks, Nebraska Tourism Commission executive director.

This tour will highlight the culinary experience in Omaha, Lincoln and Nebraska City. Stops include Arbor Day Farm, Lied Lodge & Conference Center, The Rabbit Hole Bakery, Lincoln Farmer’s Market, a Lincoln beer tasting tour with Boiler Brewing, Empyrean Brewing Co., Code Beer and 5168 Brewing, Vala’s Pumpkin Patch, an Omaha Culinary Tour that includes Suji’s Korean Grill, Crescent Moon, Cordial Cherry and more.  

The visiting journalists have written for noteworthy publications such as Smithsonian Magazine, CNN, Food & Wine, Paste, Orbitz, BBC, Atlas Obscura, The Denver Post, Livability and Zagat.

This year, Nebraska has hosted 17 journalists through individual and group tours. These tours have produced a wide variety of coverage, spanning the state in outlets like Thrillist, National Geographic, Food & Wine, The Epoch Times, The Chicago Tribune, The Los Angeles Times and more. Additional stories are still expected from these trips, including upcoming coverage in Hemispheres (United Airline's in-flight magazine), Tribune News Service and a feature in Lonely Planet. The coverage has exposed over 274,841,646 potential visitors to what Nebraska has to offer.
