LINCOLN, Neb. (March 7, 2019) – Sandhill crane viewing, railroad history and local food tasting are all part of the upcoming Cranes and Trains themed media tour. Nebraska Tourism Commission welcomes five journalists from national media outlets to experience the state March 10-15. These tours are designed to showcase what Nebraska has to offer to increase media coverage of tourism opportunities in the state.

“The sandhill crane migration is one of the most spectacular migrations in the world and we're excited to have a great group of writers experience it,” said John Ricks, Nebraska Tourism Commission executive director. "Partnered with activities revolving around Nebraska's deep railroad history, I think this will be a great tour for us to show off the state."

This tour will highlight destinations in Omaha, Grand Island, Kearney and North Platte that focus on the sandhill crane migration and train-themed activities in honor of the Transcontinental Railroad’s 150th anniversary. Stops include a welcome reception at Durham Museum with food from Dante, Lauritzen Gardens, Crane Trust, Stuhr Museum, Kinkaider Brewing, Prairie Pride Brewery, Iain Nicolson Audubon Center at Rowe Sanctuary, Archway, Museum of Nebraska Art (MONA), Golden Spike Tower, Lincoln County Historical Museum, Dusty Trails, Pals Brewing Co. and more.

The visiting journalists have written for noteworthy publications such as Outside, Backpacker, American Way, Sierra, Architectural Digest, Travel Channel, TravelAge West and more.

In 2018, Nebraska welcomed 23 journalists through individual and group tours. These tours produced a wide variety of coverage, spanning the state in outlets like Thrillist, National Geographic, Food & Wine, The Chicago Tribune, The Los Angeles Times, Houston Chronicle, Hemispheres, Food Network, Orbitz and more. The coverage has exposed over 353,044,928 potential visitors to what Nebraska has to offer.

Nebraska Tourism partners with communities to make these tours possible.
