Nebraska tourism professionals gather in South Sioux City this week

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (October 24, 2022) - Traditional Native American dance performers, a sampling of Dakota County's top food food vendors and cutting-edge tourism industry content are all in store at this year's Nebraska Tourism Conference, October 25-27, in South Sioux City. Tourism industry professionals are gathering at the Marriott Riverfront to hear from a wide variety of speakers, learn about the latest tourism trends and to network with other industry members.
 

Conference Highlights on Tuesday, October 25:

 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.     Nebraska Tourism Commission Meeting
 
5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.     Many Moccasins Dance Troupe, Riverfront Lawn
This ensemble of professional Native American performers utilize traditional dance to entertain, educate and uplift audiences around the world. Founded in 2001 and based out of Winnebago, Nebraska, the group was created to give audiences exposure to a wide range of Native American dance and education.
 
Conference Highlights on Wednesday, October 26:

9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.   Keynote: The Art of Belonging - What a Long Strange Trip It's Been
Keynote speaker Shelley Brown, sharing her powerful journey through relatable stories and teaching us all to be W.E.I.R.D. (Welcoming, Engaging, Integrating, Risk-taking and Dynamic), will help you find that you come to that magical place where your authenticity becomes your superpower and the key to belonging.
 
10:30-11:30 a.m.     Breakout Sessions
The individual sessions for this block include how to leverage wellness travel, tourism strategies for small communities and travel & media trends for 2023.
 
11:45 a.m. - 1:15 p.m.    General Session: National Trends
Join Nebraska Tourism executive director John Ricks and the Nebraska Hospitality Association's Zoe Olson for a lunchtime discussion on national trends and what tourism is doing in our own market.

1:30 - 2:30 p.m.     Breakout Sessions
These sessions include the topics of helping small tourism businesses maximize their public relations exposure, motorcoach tours and resources and opportunities for obtaining grant funding.

3:00 - 4:00 p.m.   General Session: Arrivalist with Cree Lawson
Arrivalist CEO Cree Lawson will present a seasoned, data-driven business and travel perspective to help you better understand human movement into Nebraska, including source markets.
 
5:00 - 7:00 p.m.    Taste of Dakota County
See what Dakota County has to offer you. Have a taste with food trucks, vendors, entertainment and more.

Conference Highlights on Thursday, October 27:

8:30 - 9:30 a.m..  General Session: Networking with the Commissioners
Catch up with any and all of the Nebraska Tourism Commissioners.
 
9:30 - 10:30 a.m.    Keynote Session: Curb Free with Cory Lee
After being diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy at the age of two, Cory Lee's thirst for adventure never ceased. He has traveled across all seven continents in his powered wheelchair while managing to run his travel blog, CurbFreeWithCoryLee.com, where he shares his accessible (and sometimes not so accessible) travel adventures and inspires others to roll out of their comfort zones and see all the world has to offer.
 
11:00 a.m. - Noon    Breakout Sessions
Sessions include Arrivalist's Cree Lawson, the rise of TikTok influencers and a panel on diversity, equality and inclusion with Cory Lee and Omaha's Calvin Williams and Marcos Eduardo Mora Barrientos.

12:15 - 2:15 p.m.    Luncheon & 2022 Tourism Industry Awards Presentation
The event is dedicated to celebrating the best and the brightest in the Nebraska Tourism Industry. Governor Ricketts will join in presenting the awards.
