"Understanding Tourism: Nebraska's Sleeping Giant" to premiere on Nebraska Public Media

LINCOLN, Neb. (Feb. 7, 2024) - A new Nebraska Public Media "Connects" program will showcase the importance of the Nebraska tourism industry and its benefit to Nebraskans and the state's economy.
"Understanding Tourism: Nebraska's Sleeping Giant" will premiere at 7 p.m. CT Wednesday, Feb. 7 on the WORLD television channel.
As the state's third-largest industry, tourism is naturally tied to the well-being of communities across Nebraska. Destinations, restaurants, hotels, natural wonders and unique businesses all attract and rely on visitors. In this program, many of the diverse faces of the industry will tell the story of why supporting tourism is vital for the health of the state as a whole and why support of the tourism industry is in the best interest of all Nebraskans.
"A key factor in tourism being successful is creating ambassadors throughout the state – community-based advocates that spread the word about the importance and economic value of the industry in the state. This program will help people understand the value of tourism to Nebraska help residents better prepare Nebraskans in their role in shining light on their communities and businesses," said John Ricks, Nebraska Tourism executive director.
Viewers will learn about tourism in all corners of the state, from Omaha's vibrant Old Market to the Lincoln Children's Zoo to Chimney Rock to the small community of Potter.
