Jean Potts was born in St. Paul, on Nov. 17, 1910. She graduated from St. Paul High School and Nebraska Wesleyan University. Potts moved to New York and would go on to write several short stories for Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine, Alfred Hitchcock’s Magazine and Women’s Day, to name a few. It was her mystery novels that caught the attention of the critics. Her first novel, Go, Lovely Rose, brought Potts national attention by winning the prestigious “Edgar” Award from the Mystery Writers of America. International attention was given to her from a London film studio when they wanted to make the novel into a film. Other novels followed, 14 in all. Potts died in New York on November 17, 1999.
