Platte County Museum – Columbus

Thousands of local artifacts line the walls of this three-building museum and make for a historically immersive visit. Step back in time on a trip to Columbus founder Frederick Gottschalk’s 1857 log cabin or do time in the county’s first steel “Pauley” jail cell. Long-time residents of Platte County may even find the names and faces of distant relatives listed in a worn convenience store log book or displayed in donated vintage photographs.

Genoa Indian School Interpretive Center – Genoa

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the only U.S. federal boarding school in Nebraska tells the story of the almost 50 years of non-reservation education of American Indian children. From 1884 to 1934, the Genoa Indian School served as Nebraska’s only Indian boarding school. Today, the Interpretive Center displays various exhibits including original harness and bridal murals, Tribal flags and a campus model. Explore the still-standing Manual Training Building and brick Stile that welcomed students to the school.

The Farmer’s Wide Boutique & Coffee Co. - Lindsay

“Sip and shop” ‘til you drop at The Farmer’s Wife Boutique & Coffee Co. in small-town Lindsay. First opening in 2019, the boutique offers “clothing for the modern farmwife” and a wide variety of beverages including coffee, fruit smoothies, Italian soda and more.

Fun Fact: After purchasing the empty lot that is now occupied by The Farmer’s Wife, boutique owner Breanna Sueper, along with her husband and father, spent three years constructing the building themselves from the ground up.

Enjoy the simple beauty and calming landscape of Simpler Thymes Flower Farm. Buy a handmade bouquet of flowers straight from the garden or pick up a pot of honey made right on the farm. With the flower field in full bloom, now is the perfect time to stroll through the rows of beautiful blossoms and watch as the honeybees fly from flower to flower. And don’t forget, a trip to Simpler Thymes wouldn’t be complete without saying hello to Molly the donkey.
