Explore the Historic Lewis & Clark Scenic Byway
Follow Highway 75 for a historic and picturesque journey along the Missouri River. This scenic byway follows Lewis and Clark’s journey on their way to find the Pacific Ocean back in 1804. The Lewis & Clark Scenic Byway allows you to see some of Nebraska’s earliest settlements along with scenic countryside.
Omaha
Omaha is home to one of the nation’s top zoos, the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium along with a collection of museums that will pique anyone’s interest. Get an in-depth look into Lewis & Clark’s journey at the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail Headquarters Visitor Center. Stop at the Durham Museum or the Great Plains Black History Museum for even more history. End your trip with some local shopping around the historic Old Market and a meal from Upstream Brewing Company.
Fort Calhoun
While in Fort Calhoun, make a stop at Fort Atkinson State Historical Park to see the area’s history come to life. For a closer look into the area’s natural beauty, Boyer Chute National Wildlife Refuge offers an auto tour with stops to get out and explore, along with an observation platform to get a scenic view of the surrounding area. Blair
The town of Blair offers the perfect mix of scenic outdoor activities, shopping and delicious eats. Immerse yourself in nature and go fishing, kayaking, or explore at the picturesque DeSoto Chute National Wildlife Refuge. Check out Creative Connection Studio Gallery for a wide variety of art made by local artists and even take an art class. Stop by the Blair Marina, a local favorite since 1959, for a delicious American meal.
Tekamah
Tekamah is the perfect town for rich history and fun. Housed in the 1904 E.C. Houston House and featuring an early 1900s schoolhouse, the Burt County Museum takes you back to the past. For a taste of Nebraska-made wine, give the Big Cottonwood Vineyard and Winery or the Silver Hills Vineyard and Winery a try. Don’t leave Tekamah without doing some shopping or trying some freshly baked goods or chocolate at Master’s Hand.
Winnebago
The village of Winnebago may be small, but there is much to discover here. Home of the Winnebago Indian Reservation, venture north of town to see a tribal buffalo herd pasture. Visit the Angel De Cora Museum and Research Center to see Winnebago artifacts including traditional dolls, paintings, clothing and other meaningful items. See the story of the Winnebago Tribe’s 12 clans through sculptures at the Honoring-the-Clans Sculpture Garden and Cultural Plaza.
South Sioux City
South Sioux City marks the last stop of the trip. With rich history here in Nebraska and across the river in the borders of Iowa and South Dakota, this city is a 3-in-1 bonus.
