Lace up your skates, buckle your helmet, and hit the trails as the weather heats up in Nebraska! No matter your preferred way of moving, there are trails for all to enjoy. Keep reading to find a new favorite local trail or a fun faraway destination!
Cowboy Trail
This trail spans from Norfolk to Chadron and is one of the longest trails in the state. Open to bikes, walkers, horseback riders, and campers in spots it is a great location to get outdoors and see Nebraska!
Homestead Trail
This trail is based off a former Union Pacific rail line and extends from south of Lincoln to Cortland, NE. If you prefer a longer route keep following it all the way through Marysville, Kansas! Look for parking at Saltillo Road and Roca to get going.
Bluebird Trail
This handicapped accessible path in Atkinson incorporates native trees and wildflowers into the trail’s ecosystem. Make sure to note the bluebird boxes that line the pathway and take a seat and enjoy the scenery at the all-season benches around the pathway!
Kearney Water Trail
Take a break from dry land with a trip to Kearney’s Water Trail! This 2.3-mile-long path in the heart of Kearney allows you to enjoy nature without exploring far. Take your pick of canoe or kayak to adventure in.
Dark Island Trail in Central City
This 8-mile-long trail beginning by Central City is great for all types of outdoor activities from running, biking, or walking. No need to bring your own equipment as bikes can be rented by the Merrick County Youth Council in Central City!
Potter’s Pasture Mountain Bike Trail
If you prefer upping the intensity of your trails, check out Potter’s Pasture Mountain Bike Trails! This location consists of 100 miles of mountain bike trails through 1200 acres of hills, canyons, trees and native grasses.
MoPac East Trail
This former Missouri Pacific rail line extends 25 miles from Lincoln through Walton, Eagle, Elmwood and Wabash. Alongside the recreational trail is the Charles L. Warner Equestrian Trail and provides great blend of prairie, woodland and agricultural scenery!
