Skate Around the State - Ice Skating in Nebraska

Here in Nebraska, we have many hidden surprises that make this state great. One of our favorites is ice skating. During the winter months especially, great ice skating, both indoor and outdoor, can be found all around the state! So go on, lace up your skates and give it a whirl.

Eugene T Mahoney State Park - Ashland

While Mahoney State Park is a favorite for many during the summer months, during the winter it’s a whole new park. Enjoy numerous winter activities from sledding, ice fishing and of course, ice skating in their outdoor ice-skating rink.

Open from mid-November through mid-March. Park permit required. Some activities have admission fees.

 

UNMC Ice Rink – Omaha

The University of Nebraska Medical Center’s outdoor Ice Rink is open this year from December 3rd-February 5th. The admission cost also covers skate rentals, or you can bring your own!

The UNMC Ice Rink will be closed if outside temperatures hit zero degrees Fahrenheit or below. You can always call or check their Facebook page for updates on closings.

 

John Breslow Ice Hockey Center – Lincoln

For year-round ice skating in Nebraska’s Capital City, this 53,000-square-foot ice arena is perfect. The rink is open for public skating on various days and times throughout the week. They even offer skate rentals, storage, a pro shop and concessions for their visitors.

Sidner Ice Arena – Fremont

Lace up your skates at the Sidner Ice Arena, housed in the Fremont Family YMCA, the second-largest YMCA in the country. Stop by for public skating, watch or play in a hickey game, or join a broomball or curling league!

Stuhr Museum Glaciarium – Grand Island

Come discover the Stuhr Museum’s newest immersive experience. Come skate on their 40-by-60-foot outdoor synthetic ice rink. Skate rentals are included with the price of admission as well as access to the entire museum campus, so you can check out all the museum’s exhibits while you’re there as well!
