Family Fun

FINDING FUN WAS NEVER SO EASY.

Bring the kids to experience pioneer life, wildlife, state parks, water parks, fossil beds or the joy of floating down a river in a livestock tank. Nebraska is packed full of family adventures waiting to be discovered.

Here are the bullet points for just a glimpse at each of the state’s 7 regions, but this is just the tip of the iceberg. Keep reading for even more ideas for your ideal family trip.

Metro

Explore one of the world’s top zoos, Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium, with immersive environments and exhibits re-creating the floor of the sea to the tallest trees of the rainforest.

Southeast

U-Pick orchards, apple goodies, Tree Adventure, and plenty of room to spread out and explore are just a few of the features of the picturesque Arbor Day Farm in Nebraska City. The home of Arbor Day is a great destination for all ages, every season of the year.

Northeast

Set on the stunning river of the same name, Niobrara State Park offers the accommodations and activities to go along with the scenery. Whether your family wants to rough it at a campsite or stay in a pristine cabin, there is plenty of outdoor fun to enjoy, including swimming, fishing and trail rides.

South Central

A memorable and educational journey for all ages, The Archway stretches across Interstate 80 in Kearney and tells the story of the area’s travelers, from the first Native Americans through modern tourists. Be sure to check out the stacked gift shop!

Southwest

At 30,000 surface acres, Lake McConaughy State Recreation Area near Ogallala is easily Nebraska’s largest reservoir. There is plenty of fun to go around as well with a day (or an overnight camping trip) at the lake. Lounge on the beach, go for a swim, have a picnic and much more. The Visitor/Water Interpretive Center has several hands-on exhibits to teach the kids about the area, too.

Sandhills

Looking for a little bit of space for you and your family? The Valentine area has it all, with the Niobrara National Scenic River (an International Quiet Trail) and Merritt Reservoir State Recreation Area (an International Dark Sky Place). Don’t forget to head to Smith Falls and splash in Nebraska’s tallest waterfall.

Northwest

Looking for a slice of authentic Nebraska ranch life? Our Heritage Guest Ranch near Crawford is an all-inclusive bed & breakfast accommodation just steps away from rural activities that anyone can enjoy. Fossil hunting, horseback riding, and exploring the nearby badlands and prairie are sure to be a hit with the whole family.
